A Wonderful Holiday Fishing
by Hannah Turner

The fishing up the waters of the east coast of America
offers the most diverse and splendid fishing that will
satisfy even the most avid angler. The waters change from
the tropical colours of the Florida Keys through to icy
wastes of northern Quebec. There are many companies
offering holidays throughout the different areas and you
really are spoilt for choice. Literally whatever package
you put together can be made possible for you (at a cost!).
Here are a few ideas to get the creative juices flowing:
Florida Keys or the 'Fishing Capital of the World'. Here
you find the warm gulf stream waters that provide a home to
some of the finest areas of coral in the world, offering
not only the ultimate in 'sunny clime' fishing but
wonderful scuba diving and snorkelling. It's therefore an
ideal place for a family holiday with different activities
for the different members of the family - satisfaction all
round! You can charter a boat of varying size depending on
your budget and they fish that you're after, but you'll
find that they'll be well equipped but for your comfort and
for your fishing.
Heading north, you'll arrive at North Carolina. Here
you'll find game fish and delicious sea food aplenty. If
you want variety, this is the place to come. You'll be able
to indulge in surf casting, trolling diving and spear
fishing or deep sea fishing in the Gulf Stream. Charter
your boat and simply enjoy!
Still further north you'll find the Atlantic salmon
fishing and black bear hunting region around Quebec. Up
here you'll find some of North America's best salmon lodges
where fishing is quite simply a way of life and where
salmon fishers have brought a love and passion to this fine
art in which the fisher has to patiently build a
relationship with the fish based on respect. He learns how
to understand its behaviour and how it will react. The
fight is over when the salmon admits defeat or swims free.
The rivers are full and run clear. They are teaming with
salmon just waiting for you, but if you want to ring the
changes you could visit some of the tens of thousands of
lakes which are home to many varieties of trout, pike and
whitefish. The scenery inland is just breathtaking and
you'll find companies who will arrange guides and every
type of accommodation from the rustic through to the most
luxurious.
Going even further north, you'll find ice fishing. As soon
as the ice is thick enough small, colourful shacks are
dragged onto the lakes and rivers. These are of differing
standards and are rented out accordingly. Some villages can
have up to seventeen hundred of these shacks that are quite
a spectacle from Christmas through to February each year.
If you decide to sample these extremes you're likely to
catch in Quebec, walleye, yellow perch and pike; in
Saguenay, redfish, cod and turbot and in the Laurentians
you'll find rainbow and speckled trout.
